Over 450 people attended British Steel’s recruitment event on 17 May as it looks to build the next generation of steelworkers.
The company is advertising more than 180 roles across the business as it prepares to up production and there are opportunities in a range of areas including engineering, welding, nursing, HR, cleaning, and customer services.
Interim Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bell, said: “We are extremely grateful for everyone who attended and showed such interest in joining our business. It was an incredible turnout which reinforces our confidence in the future of our business.
“We will now be looking through the applications we have received but don’t worry if you haven’t applied yet. There’s still time so please get your applications in.”
165 of the roles are in Scunthorpe, and 17 are at British Steel’s operations at Teesside and Skinningrove. Among the positions currently available are:
- Engineering roles – electrical and mechanical
- Business functional roles – including commercial, legal, and occupational health
- Shift manufacturing operators – including at entry-level with training provided
- Shift and day craft – electrical, mechanical, and structural
- Technical / manufacturing roles – shift and managerial
