Industry at 15 year high

UK manufacturing activity grew at its fastest for 15 years in March, according to the purchasing managers' index (PMI).

The PMI rose to 57.2 last month, from 56.5 in February making it the best monthly growth figure since October 1994. The PMI is calculated from data on new orders, production, employment, and purchasing. An index reading above 50 indicates that activity is rising. Anything under 50 shows contraction.
