Johnson & Johnson has announced a $2bn, decade-long commitment to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint through a new partnership with FUJIFILM.
The investment will support a 160,000-square-foot state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility at FUJIFILM’s campus in Holly Springs, North Carolina, creating approximately 120 new jobs in the region.
The move underscores Johnson & Johnson’s strategy to increase domestic production of advanced medicines and reinforce the United States as the backbone of its global manufacturing network. The Holly Springs facility forms part of a broader push by the company to build out advanced manufacturing capabilities across the U.S., with additional new sites and expansions of existing facilities expected to be announced in the coming months.
“Johnson & Johnson has more manufacturing facilities in the U.S. than in any other country, and we continue to strengthen our presence here,” said Joaquin Duato, Chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson. “With the recent signing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, we continue to expand our investment in the U.S. to lead the next era of healthcare innovation.”
The new initiative follows Johnson & Johnson’s March announcement of a sweeping $55bn investment package over the next four years. That plan spans U.S. manufacturing, research and development, and technology initiatives, with a particular focus on therapies in oncology, neuroscience, immunology, cardiovascular disease, and robotic surgery. In addition to the Holly Springs expansion, construction is progressing on the company’s Wilson, North Carolina site, which is expected to employ more than 500 people once operational and create an estimated 5,000 construction jobs.
By leveraging FUJIFILM’s advanced facility, Johnson & Johnson will significantly expand its domestic production capabilities. The company said the investments will help ensure that the majority of its most advanced medicines are manufactured in the U.S., supporting thousands of jobs while meeting the growing demand from U.S. patients.
