The Lesjöfors Group is celebrating a remarkable milestone this year: 350 years of continuous innovation, craftsmanship, and contribution to global industry.
What began in 1675 as a small iron mill on the banks of a Swedish river has evolved into a global leader in precision-engineered springs, pressings and critical components, with operations spanning more than 50 sites across more than 20 countries.
Jakob Lindquist, Vice President of Lesjöfors Nordics, said: “For us, this anniversary is more than just a celebration of longevity. It’s a tribute to the people behind the progress. From our founding teams in Sweden to our newest colleagues in India, France, UK and the United States, our people have always been at our heart, and it is them we must thank for making Lesjöfors one of the world’s most enduring industrial companies.”
The Lesjöfors journey is one of reinvention and resilience, woven through centuries of industrial change. Established in 1675 with a royal decree to build an iron hammer, the company went on to produce springs for Sweden’s first steam locomotive in 1853. Under the leadership of Baron Gerard De Geer from the 1920s through the 1950s, it invested in electrification, modernisation and global growth, even exporting wire rope to the United States during the Great Depression. In the 1980s and 2000s, employee ownership and its acquisition by Beijer Alma marked a period of transformation. From 2002 to 2016, the company accelerated its global expansion into Asia, the UK and North America, including entry into the medical market. More recently, it has become the first spring manufacturer to commit to Science Based Targets (SBTi), expanded into India, France and the UK, and launched an online shop offering the world’s widest range of stock springs.
Today, Lesjöfors components are vital yet often unseen—quietly essential in industries ranging from automotive and aerospace to agriculture, defence, medical devices, electronics, and energy supply. Mikael Andersson, Vice President of Lesjöfors Asia, said: “Our legacy is built not only on product excellence but on a deep-rooted commitment to people – whether that’s our teams or our customers. It is these relationships that has resulted in strategies that have shaped the company, solved our biggest challenges, and led us into new industries and markets. Our future focus is on even smarter systems, stronger sustainability values, and further empowerment of our decentralized global teams.”
As part of its 350th anniversary celebrations, Lesjöfors is recognising its ‘Legacy Champions’—long-serving employees and multi-generational families whose contributions have shaped the company’s DNA. Christofer Hedvall, Vice President of Lesjöfors Europe, said: “With 350 years behind us, we have the most incredible archive of memories and committed team members who have contributed many decades of service. It is these individuals who have helped shape the DNA of Lesjöfors and our group of companies.”
Lesjöfors is marking this historic milestone with events, internal recognitions and global reflections on its journey. A newly launched anniversary website features stories, timelines, and tributes to the people who have built and sustained one of the world’s longest-standing engineering companies. Johan Wall, Chairman of the Board of Beijer Alma, the parent company of Lesjöfors, said: “When Beijer Alma acquired Lesjöfors in 1989, we were laying the foundation for an ambitious acquisition-driven growth strategy across Scandinavia and beyond. It’s a privilege to have been a part of this successful journey and to see Lesjöfors continue to power progress through precision, innovation, and sustainability. Here’s to 350 more years and beyond.”
