Chilled meal solutions manufacturer, Oscar Mayer, has teamed up with surplus stock redistributor, Company Shop Group, to open a new on-site discount store for colleagues at its Wrexham facility.
The discount store, which officially opened on 26 August, offers a wide variety of surplus stock at greatly reduced prices, helping colleagues save money while tackling food waste and its environmental impact.
The initiative, part of Oscar Mayer’s ongoing commitment to supporting colleagues during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, brings Company Shop Group’s national surplus redistribution model to a local level. In 2024, Company Shop Group redistributed over 46,000 tonnes of surplus food and drink – the equivalent of 108 million meals – that would otherwise have gone to waste.
On the opening day, Oscar’s Shop welcomed colleagues with a range of everyday essentials, cupboard staples and household goods, all sourced from surplus stock that would otherwise go to waste.
Sarah Hill, Chief People and ESG Officer at Oscar Mayer, said: “Opening Oscar’s Shop here in Wrexham is a proud moment for our business. It’s a practical way to ease everyday costs for our colleagues while also playing our part in tackling unnecessary waste.
“Our partnership with Company Shop Group builds on a wider commitment to environmental and social responsibility – from reducing surplus to supporting colleagues in the local community. This launch marks another milestone in creating a more resilient and responsible workplace for the future.”
Chris Burns, Group Managing Director at Company Shop Group, added: “Our vision is to create a world where no surplus products go to waste by working with partners like Oscar Mayer to help them reduce waste by redistributing their surplus products.
“This new shop demonstrates our commitment to supporting the industry by creating sustainable and innovative solutions that helps partners deliver their environmental goals, and provide a great benefit for their colleagues, who can save money on their weekly shopping bills.”
The launch was marked by a celebration at the Wrexham site, where colleagues gathered for a tour of the facility and to meet the team behind the initiative.
