Perspex International pushes ahead with £40m eco-friendly plant in Lancashire

Perspex International has taken a major step forward in the creation of its new £40m production plant and research centre in Darwen, Lancashire with construction plans now firmly in motion.

The new hi-tech facility, based at Chapels Park, is designed to streamline processes, cut water consumption, and lower carbon emissions as part of the manufacturer’s long-term sustainability strategy. The development will include a 13,000 sq. ft. extension and serve as a hub for innovation in acrylic production.

A series of agreements with contractors across Lancashire and the North West have now been finalised, paving the way for the build phase to begin. Project management of the plant will be overseen by Hart Process Services, under an Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) framework that coordinates multiple specialist contractors.

Bryan Welch, Operations Director at Perspex International, said the investment reflects both environmental ambitions and operational efficiency:
“Our investment at Chapels Park will create a modern facility that streamlines processes to reduce water consumption and CO2 emissions. Realising these ambitions requires extensive knowledge and experience, and the collaboration of different specialists. Implementing our carefully developed EPCM framework makes this a reality and is a key milestone for driving our plans forward.”

Forbes Solicitors, which has worked with Perspex International since 2022, supported the development of the EPCM framework, having earlier advised on planning consents, health and safety, and pre-construction services. The law firm’s commercial team ensured that the framework brought together the right contractors for the complex project. But the spotlight remains on Perspex International’s commitment to greener, smarter manufacturing in the heart of Lancashire.
