Many of us on social media will have heard of bone broth and its benefits. Celebrities from Gwyneth Paltrow to the Kardashians have been drinking it for years and bragging about the positive impacts it can have on your health.
But what is it? According to Ros Heathcote, Founder of Borough Broth it is ultimately meat, bones, vegetables, water and seasoning. Her broths here are slow cooked for 24 hours and they’re seasoned to be sipped like a tea or they can be used as a ‘posh’ stock as a base for meals.

Like Ros’ own story she began making bone broth at home after being recommended it by a friend for some ongoing digestive issues she was having. But this is time consuming and not accessible for everyone, yet, buying it premade on the supermarket shelves can be.
During our interview at the Borough Broth site, Ros hinted at big collaboration in the pipeline soon, which turned out to be Tesco, the UK largest supermarket. The expansion into Tesco follows Borough Broth’s successful launch in Sainsbury’s earlier this year, reflecting the growing consumer demand for high-quality bone broths.
In January 2024, John Lewis Partnership reported that searches for ‘bone broth’ on Waitrose.com grew up to163% compared to the same time the previous year, so it listened to its customers and introduced Borough Broth to its shelves.
Editor Joe Bush and I were intrigued by the broth and we’re luckily given some samples by the team. The verdict, warming, tasty and full of benefits, what’s not to enjoy? But even if animal bones aren’t for you, Borough Broth has a vegan option using seaweed, apples and miso, mimicking similar properties to the collagen found in original.
