This month, The Manufacturer explores the most pressing issue facing the UK manufacturing sector – skills and training.
At every level, from STEM education and apprenticeships, through to adult learning and worker upskilling, quality and quantity are deteriorating and the chances of pulling ourselves out of the nosedive we’re in appear bleak.
In this issue, we offer a critique of a key plank in the government’s skills policy – the Apprenticeship Levy, and have contributions from two highly qualified and respected observers of the education system.
Aside from highlighting the bad, we also love to encourage the good, and we have a whole series of articles showcasing some of the more positive things happening in schools and workplaces up and down the country.
