Tell us a bit about yourself. This can include telling us what fires you up about the job you do, your professional achievements, your career highlights. What inspires you? What attracted you to pursue a career in manufacturing? Is there anything else you’d like to say about either your job or UK manufacturing?
What drives me in manufacturing is the pace, complexity and the tangible impact our work has, especially within the supply chain. I’m proud to have recently completed my CIPS qualification, which has further strengthened my ability to support sustainable and compliant procurement practices. A standout moment in my career was managing and supporting my team through the launch of our medical division during the height of the pandemic, ensuring production continued so we could deliver critical equipment to customers globally.
That experience highlighted the importance of resilience, agility and strong leadership. What inspires me today is the opportunity to shape supply chains that are not only efficient but also responsible and future-ready, supporting both business goals and wider societal needs. I’m proud to be part of UK manufacturing and its ongoing evolution.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I’d tell my younger self to be patient and trust the process. You won’t have all the answers at the start, but with hard work, persistence and a willingness to learn, everything will come together. I’d also remind myself that it’s okay to take the longer route; working your way up builds resilience, experience and a deeper understanding of the job and the people around you. Having recently gained my CIPS qualification and stepped into a management role, I can look back and see the value in every step I took. Believe in your ability, stay focused and never underestimate where dedication can take you.
What is your favourite engineered/manufactured product?
The Dyson hair dryer. It’s a perfect example of how innovation, engineering excellence and user-focused design come together to transform an everyday product. I admire how Dyson challenged convention and applied advanced technology to something as simple
Please give one interesting fact about yourself that not many people know.
I used to do Irish dancing. When Sunderland became a city, I had the opportunity to perform both solo and as part of a group at the Empire Theatre, which was an unforgettable experience!
If you weren’t in manufacturing what would be your dream job?
My dream job would be in the fashion industry. I’ve always had a deep passion for clothes and fashion, appreciating how style allows people to express themselves creatively. Whether it’s working in design, styling or as a buyer, I’d love to be part of an industry that celebrates innovation and personal expression.
