Despite advanced manufacturing being identified as a sector for growth in the UK, it is widely accepted that the greatest challenge to growth is the significant skills shortage. Could proposed immigration laws make this even more challenging?
We spoke with Ludovica Bello at Smart Manufacturing Week, she works as a solicitor at Laura Devine Immigration. She reminded us of the UK’s history between migrant workers and manufacturing. And in the current landscape, she points out that the recruitment of overseas nationals is considered essential to filling these gaps.
But in this interview, she discusses the implications of the government’s recently published Immigration White Paper on the advanced manufacturing industry. The White Paper proposed a number of potentially significant changes to The Skilled Worker sponsorship, a route through which foreign nationals can obtain immigration permission to work in the UK.
At Laura Devine Immigration, Ludovica advises both corporate and private clients on a wide range of personal, business and human rights immigration matters. Ludovica’s experience includes facilitating immigration solutions for multinational companies, preparing nationality applications, assisting with complex family matters and advising on discretionary applications made on the grounds of Article 8 ECHR rights.
She has developed a particular expertise in preparing sponsor licence applications for companies ranging from technology start-ups to large multinationals, as well as preparing Skilled Worker applications for their employees.
