£10m boost powers new era for J&J Ormerod

East Lancashire furniture manufacturer J&J Ormerod (JJO) has secured £10m in growth finance following its acquisition by private equity firm 4D Capital Partners. The funding, provided by Allica Bank, is expected to safeguard jobs, expand services and accelerate the company’s next phase of growth.

Based in Bacup, JJO has been a cornerstone of the local economy for more than 150 years, employing nearly 270 people across several sites. The business designs, manufactures and delivers fitted kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, supplying both small trade customers and large-scale housing developers across the UK.

The acquisition sees 4D Capital Partners, backed by the Newett family – known for investments in property and housing across the region – take control of the business. While ownership has changed, the Greenhalgh family will remain involved in a reduced capacity, with Stephen Greenhalgh continuing as Managing Director, representing the third generation of family leadership.

The new owners intend to invest heavily in staff, processes and capacity while further developing JJO’s installation and contracting arm. The strategy will allow the company to offer a full end-to-end service, from manufacturing through to delivery and fitting. To support this vision, Allica Bank has provided a £10m revolving growth facility, designed to fund the acquisition, working capital requirements and future expansion.

“JJO has been part of the fabric of Bacup for generations, and we’re incredibly proud of everything the team has built here,” said Stephen Greenhalgh. “4D were an obvious choice to be the new custodians of the business, and with the support of Allica Bank it’s given us a real opportunity to grow while staying true to our roots.”

Alex Silk, Managing Partner at 4D Capital Partners, added: “JJO has a long history in the area and a strong reputation as a top-tier manufacturer. We believe our investment will help the business grow and develop, and we’re delighted to be taking this step with the Greenhalgh family.”
