Airbus has announced that Lars Wagner, currently Chief Executive Officer of MTU Aero Engines AG, will join the Airbus Executive Committee and succeed Christian Scherer as CEO of the Commercial Aircraft business, effective 1 January 2026.
To ensure a seamless handover, Wagner will begin his transition to Airbus in November 2025. Christian Scherer will continue to lead the Commercial Aircraft business until the end of the year, concluding a distinguished career of more than 40 years in various senior roles across the Airbus organisation.
Wagner, 50, has served as CEO of MTU Aero Engines AG since January 2023. Since joining MTU in 2015, he has held key leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President responsible for OEM operations. His earlier career included a number of management positions at Airbus sites in Bremen, Hamburg, and Toulouse.
Wagner holds a degree in mechanical and aeronautical engineering, as well as an MBA, bringing both technical expertise and business acumen to his new role at Airbus.
