BAE Systems and Kongsberg, two of Europe’s leading defence companies, are deepening their long-standing relationship through a new agreement that expands cooperation across both the maritime and air domains.

The announcement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in May 2025, which set out plans to explore closer collaboration in supporting militaries across NATO and allied nations. That initial agreement focused heavily on the maritime sector, with potential joint work including the Vanguard vessel system, strategic partnerships for through-life support for Norway’s new frigates—should the UK’s Type 26 be selected—strike missiles, maritime surveillance and targeting, and the delivery of ship systems for both countries’ naval fleets.

The latest agreement, signed in July 2025, sits under the umbrella of the May MoU and extends cooperation into advanced air capabilities. This includes collaboration in training, uncrewed air systems, advanced materials, mission support, and research and technology. The companies will identify opportunities to leverage shared expertise, explore new market and customer prospects, and pursue innovations in combat air and related technologies.

Norway and the UK share a history of defence and industrial collaboration, underpinned by a mutual commitment to security and prosperity. BAE Systems and Kongsberg have played a central role in this partnership, working together on a range of defence programmes over the years.

With the new agreement in place, both companies aim to reinforce this relationship, advancing capabilities that will support not only their respective armed forces but also the wider NATO alliance.
