Hunting awarded $21m aerospace contract, driving 2030 diversification strategy

During the first half of 2025, Hunting secured a $21m contract from Pratt & Whitney, a global leader in the aerospace sector and a division of RTX (formerly Raytheon Technologies), to supply precision-engineered components for advanced aerospace systems. Pratt & Whitney designs, manufactures, and services commercial and military jet engines that power aircraft platforms worldwide.

The award highlights Hunting’s ability to deliver critical components into high-specification, zero-failure environments, leveraging decades of precision manufacturing expertise to meet the demands of the world’s most advanced industrial applications. Supported by US-based, AS9100-certified facilities, Hunting meets the technical, quality, and compliance requirements of top-tier aerospace programmes. Read more via The Manufacturer

Aurrigo moves into the North East with global first at Teesside International Airport

Aurrigo International has signed its first deal in the North East with Tees Valley Combined Authority (TCVA). Worth nearly £1m, the contract will see Aurrigo International collaborate with Teesside International Airport to develop an autonomous baggage and passenger moving system that will improve operational efficiencies, reduce carbon footprint and provide an improved passenger experience.

Starting in mid-October, the company’s eight-seat Auto-Shuttle will kick-off work to transport passengers directly from the aircraft steps to the terminal building. In early January 2026, Aurrigo will follow this by introducing the Auto-DollyTug – a fully driverless vehicle designed to move cargo and baggage around airports. Read more via The Manufacturer

Government backs autonomous container transport trial at Port of Tyne

A consortium led by the North East Automotive Alliance has secured Government funding to develop the UK’s first autonomous container transport system at the Port of Tyne.

The P-CAL (Port-Connected and Automated Logistics) project will deploy fully autonomous terminal tractors and secure mesh communication networks to move containers between dockside and storage compounds, representing a significant advancement in UK port automation.

The initiative is funded through the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles’ CAM Pathfinder – Enhancements programme, part of a broader £150 million investment announced in the Government’s Advanced Manufacturing Sector Plan.  Read more via The Manufacturer

Driving digitalisation: five companies unite to embrace technology for growth and job creation

A ripple effect of digitalisation is sweeping through a rural industrial estate where five manufacturers are modernising operations. The government-funded programme, which helps SMEs adopt technologies and embrace digital leadership skills, has found particular success in Whitestake, west Lancashire.

It began with Surefit Fitted Furniture, a bespoke cabinetmaker, and quickly spread through word of mouth and workshop chats to four other forward-thinking companies: C&E Aluminium Systems, MJH Joinery, Reverse Engineering and Rustic Tubs. Read more via The Manufacturer
