UK tech aims to make self-driving vehicles safer through sound

Calyo, Benedex Robotics and Cranfield University have joined forces to improve safety in self-driving vehicles.

The new partnership, part of the DRIVEN BY SOUND project led by Calyo, will develop a functional safety sensing platform based on 3D ultrasound, capable of operating effectively in even the most challenging environmental conditions. More via The Manufacturer

Transicon launches new mechatronics division

A pioneering Shropshire firm which specialises in cutting-edge automated control systems has launched a new division as it continues to grow.

Telford-based Transicon says the launch of its new mechatronics division at a technology demonstration event held at RAF Cosford is a significant step forward for the manufacturer. More via The Manufacturer

Hotel Chocolat creating 50 jobs after £10m investment in manufacturing plant

Hotel Chocolat has announced plans to invest £10m to expand its manufacturing plant in Royston.

The expansion of the Hertfordshire facility will create 50 new jobs and underlines the chocolatier’s “commitment to the British manufacturing industry.” More via Food Manufacture

Yorkshire plant-based firm expands HQ to keep up with demand

Myco has added another 3,000 sq ft to its pioneering production site in North Yorkshire, which allows for a 600 percent increase in production of the firm’s Hooba range of burgers and sausages.

The extension means Myco can vertically farm far more oyster mushrooms, which are converted into Hooba under that same roof. Having recently brought the range to market, the company said it has proven so popular it had to expand to meet growing demand. More via Vertical Farm Daily

Schneider Electric UK&I President takes on Belgium and Netherlands in scope expansion

Schneider Electric has announced that Kelly Becker has expanded her role as President of the UK and Ireland to include Belgium and the Netherlands.

JLR to cut five Jaguar models due to lack of profitability

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has confirmed it is ditching five models from its lineup next year due to their lack of profitability.

The five models being axed include the XE and XF sedans, the sporty F-Type, the E-Pace SUV, and the all-electric I-Pace SUV. By 2025, Jaguar’s lineup will consist of just one existing model, the midsize F-Pace SUV. More via AM Online
