Global stainless steel pipe manufacturer Butting has unveiled plans to set up its North American headquarters and its first production facility in the United States, selecting Baldwin County, Alabama, as the location for a $61m expansion initiative.
The project will roll out in two phases and is expected to create up to 100 high-quality jobs, offering wages that surpass the county average. The move signals a major investment in the region and underscores Baldwin County’s appeal as a destination for advanced manufacturing.
Founded in 1777 and headquartered in Knesebeck, Germany, Butting is a global leader in stainless steel pipe manufacturing, specializing in clad pipes, customized spools and components, and cryogenic pipe and valve technology. The company maintains operations across Germany, Finland, Brazil, Canada, and China, and the new Alabama site will mark its latest strategic expansion.
The new facility will be built on a 50-acre-plus site within the Loxley industrial corridor, a well-established hub for industrial development. The location was selected for its strong infrastructure, proximity to major transportation routes, and access to a skilled labor force.
Adrian Rochofski, CEO and Managing Director of Butting USA, cited Baldwin County’s livability and business-friendly environment as key factors in the company’s decision.
“Our decision to locate in Baldwin County was driven by the area’s overall attractiveness to live and work, a skilled labor force, proximity to key transportation routes, and welcoming business environment,” Rochofski said. “We’re excited to grow our footprint in the United States and call Loxley our home in North America.”
The official announcement was made during a ceremony in Loxley, attended by representatives from Butting, the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, the City of Loxley, the Baldwin County Commission, and the Alabama Department of Commerce.
Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, welcomed the investment and highlighted its broader economic impact.
“Butting’s decision to launch its North American headquarters and manufacturing operation in Baldwin County is a powerful endorsement of Alabama’s strengths in workforce readiness, industrial infrastructure, and global business relationships,” McNair said. “This investment not only brings high-paying jobs to Loxley but also supports the growth of a German industry cluster that will generate long-term economic benefits across the region.”
The announcement marks a significant milestone for Alabama’s economic development efforts and reinforces the state’s appeal to international manufacturers seeking a U.S. base of operations.
