The £82m rolling stock manufacturing and assembly facility in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham is expected to come online on 3 September and will be Hitachi Rail Europe's first train factory in Europe.
According to Hitachi, the site will initially be used to build a total of 866 Class 800/801 Super Express Trains due to operate on the Great Western Main Line (from 2017) and the East Coast Main Line (from 2018).
