Leading UK modular manufacturing specialist, Thurston Group, has been named an approved and accredited supplier on three significant national frameworks covering education, healthcare, and wider public sector building projects.
The framework awards mark a major strategic step forward in the Wakefield-headquartered company’s growth plans and cement its standing as a chosen supplier of modern methods of construction (MMC) across the UK.
The awards include:
NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) – Modular Buildings 3 Framework
Thurston has been successfully awarded four lots on builds of up £15m on the NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) Modular Buildings 3 Framework, for the second consecutive term.
The crucial framework, which runs from June 2025 to June 2029, provides a compliant route for the purchase, hire, or lease of off-site modular buildings for the NHS and wider public sector organisations, including education, local authorities, and blue light services nationwide. It supports the government’s drive towards faster delivery, lower environmental impact and enhanced service continuity.
Thurston’s appointment aligns with its ability to deliver turnkey modular solutions that support reduced carbon emissions, improved cost efficiency, and quicker mobilisation — all essential in high-demand sectors facing urgent capacity pressures.
Kat Jackson, principal category manager at NHS SBS says: “With over £1.1bn spent through our Modular Buildings Framework Agreements since 2017, NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) provides a trusted, compliant route to market for the NHS and the wider public sector. Through the framework agreement, approved organisations can purchase, hire or lease offsite buildings from off the shelf to full turnkey solutions.”
London Construction Programme (LCP) – £3bn Education Framework
Thurston has also been awarded Lot 1.4 MMC and Temporary Buildings of the £3bn education framework, led by the London Borough of Haringey. The reshaped Framework Alliance Agreement gives access to 60 public sector bodies across London and the Home Counties, offering opportunities to deliver new-build education projects valued from £1m–£5m and £5m+.
As an endorsed supplier, Thurston now has a direct route to work with local authorities committed to sustainability and innovation, with projects covering new school builds, refurbishments and fire safety improvements.
LHC Procurement Group (LHCPG) – Modular Buildings (MB3) Framework
In another national endorsement, Thurston has been named a one of nineteen suppliers on the £265m Modular Buildings (MB3) framework by the LHC Procurement Group (LHCPG).
The contract, which runs until May 2029, covers the design, delivery, hire, and refurbishment of temporary and permanent modular units for use across education, healthcare, defence, and community buildings.
Thurston will deliver modular buildings across the Midlands, London and South East, Northern Procurement Alliance (NPA), and South West Procurement Alliance (SWPA) regions.
All three frameworks prioritise offsite manufacture, reduced delivery times, sustainability, and SME participation, aligning closely with Thurston’s strengths as a trusted off-site manufacturer with more than 50 years of experience in the sector.
Matt Goff, managing director of Thurston Group, commented: “Securing these three significant contracts is a strategic milestone for Thurston Group, further solidifying our leadership in the UK modular and portable building sector.
“The frameworks will allow us to contribute significantly to critical healthcare, education and community public infrastructure projects across the country and support a vast array of public sector bodies and we’re proud to be recognised as a certified and compliant delivery partner that supports key government targets around sustainability, social value, and speed of build.
“We’re excited to leverage the opportunities to expand our reach, serve a growing client base, and continue to champion modern methods of construction.”
Founded in 1970, Thurston Group is one of the longest-standing and highest performing modular construction and portable building manufacturers in the UK with a portfolio of over 100 clients. The firm employs circa 380 people across its four sites in East and West Yorkshire and is on track to turnover £60m this year.
