Tell us a bit about yourself. This can include telling us what fires you up about the job you do, your professional achievements, your career highlights. What inspires you? What attracted you to pursue a career in manufacturing? Is there anything else you’d like to say about either your job or UK manufacturing?
My adventure into the world of engineering kicked off with an exhilarating role as a Machine Shop Apprentice. I plunged into the heart of manufacturing, mastering the art of precision machining and working with cutting-edge tools and technology.

This thrilling start paved the way for a dynamic career, as I navigated through various roles in technical support and estimating, before diving into the realms of sales and marketing. In 2006, I achieved a major milestone by completing an MBA, which opened doors to exciting opportunities within the UK construction market. It’s been a remarkable journey filled with growth, innovation and the chance to make a real impact.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Communication, teamwork and leadership are just as important as technical skills. Being able to convey your ideas clearly and work effectively with others will set you apart.

What is your favourite engineered/manufactured product?
Optima’s Adaptable Meeting Room (AMR) is a versatile, modular solution that can be easily reconfigured to fit any space, supporting various working styles from collaboration to private work.

Please give one interesting fact about yourself that not many people know.
I am a black belt in taekwondo, not that I have practiced in years!

If you weren’t in manufacturing what would be your dream job?
I can’t imagine not doing the role I do, but if I had to choose a different path, I’d dive into the culinary world as a chef! The thrill of creating mouth-watering dishes, experimenting with flavours and bringing joy to people through food would be an incredible adventure.
