Tell us a bit about yourself. This can include telling us what fires you up about the job you do, your professional achievements, your career highlights. What inspires you? What attracted you to pursue a career in manufacturing? Is there anything else you’d like to say about either your job or UK manufacturing?
As a data analyst, I have a passion for creating compelling visuals and uncovering patterns in data. It’s like being a detective – delving into details and piecing together a story, and why one event causes another. My career has been defined by resilience, demonstrated through the completion of my degree apprenticeship – four years of balancing demanding assignments and work projects, all while tackling the added challenge of beginning the journey during the pandemic.
It was tough at times, but I take great pride in staying the course and achieving my goals. What drives me is the thrill of crafting innovative solutions to problems, thinking beyond the conventional to find perspectives that others might overlook. It’s this passion for discovery and creativity that keeps me energised and excited about the future.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Have confidence in the journey, even if where you’re going feels uncertain. Every experience – whether it be a success or a setback – plays a role in shaping your growth and creating future opportunities. Don’t have any regrets!
What is your favourite engineered/manufactured product?
LEGO’s flower sets are a brilliant example of thoughtful design and sustainability in manufacturing. They creatively reuse pieces from other sets, showcasing how innovation can go hand-in-hand with environmental consciousness. And they look great too!
Please give one interesting fact about yourself that not many people know.
I am a big film fanatic, and I probably visit the cinema at least once a week – and yes, I do keep a spreadsheet of every film I see, complete with ratings, stats and the occasional review.
If you weren’t in manufacturing what would be your dream job?
Probably a live music critic, with a niche blog and cult following – equal part concert reviews, setlist discussion and audience demographic analysis. Maybe throw in a bit of travel across tours too.
