Job Title: Manufacturing Systems Lead
Company: Morgan Advanced Materials
Tell us a bit about yourself. This can include telling us what fires you up about the job you do, your professional achievements, your career highlights. What inspires you? What attracted you to pursue a career in manufacturing? Is there anything else you’d like to say about either your job or UK manufacturing?
I’m passionate about continuous improvement and digitalisation. I find it fulfilling to investigate business issues and deliver impactful end-to-end solutions. I began my manufacturing journey as a Data Admin Clerk in 2023, with no prior experience in the sector. Within a year, I progressed to Manufacturing Systems Lead through self-teaching the Power Platform Suite and integrating the solutions within the business.
My role ranges from eliminating paper processes to creating automated bespoke systems across multiple business functions, including a tailored contract review process, digital daily stand-up applications and dashboards to provide operational insights with KPI tracking to optimise decision-making. The manufacturing sector is ever-evolving, with daily opportunities and challenges. I’m excited to continue developing my career, driving efficiencies and making a meaningful impact.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Persistence is key; if you think you are on to a great idea, pursue it and don’t be afraid to challenge convention.
What is your favourite engineered/manufactured product?
Phonak hearing aids; the Bluetooth connection to my phone makes them even better. I love the ability to listen to music all day or confuse people when I’m on a phone call and they assume I’m talking to myself.
Please give one interesting fact about yourself that not many people know.
When I was 18 years old, I travelled to Japan and almost got recruited as a monk.
If you weren’t in manufacturing what would be your dream job?
A narrative designer in the gaming industry.
