Job Title: Operations Director

Company: Millboard

Tell us a bit about yourself. This can include telling us what fires you up about the job you do, your professional achievements, your career highlights. What inspires you? What attracted you to pursue a career in manufacturing? Is there anything else you’d like to say about either your job or UK manufacturing?
From a very early age I had a real intrigue in how things worked and a keen interest in motorbikes and cars. This lead me to pursue a career in engineering, starting as a technician apprentice with BMW UK Manufacturing. Since this point I have always worked in manufacturing businesses, expanding my knowledge across different areas and roles at JLR and Caterpillar.

My current position at Millboard allows me to put all of my knowledge and experience together to lead manufacturing operations. In all of my roles I have always enjoyed the challenge, making improvements and the constant learning – this is still what fires me up every day. Looking forward, as manufacturers we need to be conscious of the impact of our products and processes on the environment and have robust plans in place to address this.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Work hard, stick with it and the rewards will come.

What is your favourite engineered/manufactured product?
The car.

Please give one interesting fact about yourself that not many people know.
I have always liked motorbikes and could ride one before I could ride a bicycle!

If you weren’t in manufacturing what would be your dream job?
Property restoration.
