Company: Lander Tubular Products
Tell us a bit about yourself. This can include telling us what fires you up about the job you do, your professional achievements, your career highlights. What inspires you? What attracted you to pursue a career in manufacturing? Is there anything else you’d like to say about either your job or UK manufacturing?
I started my journey in manufacturing by completing an electrical engineering apprenticeship. During this time I gained key skills which have been the foundation of my career. I have always enjoyed fault-finding and problem-solving, and love the feeling of accomplishment when completing these tasks. I’ve also found in later years that these skills have been fully transferable to management, which I have equally enjoyed. During this time I’ve had the opportunity to coach and pass on skills to apprentices and existing skilled team members.
I have also developed in-house maintenance systems/contracts to ensure the availability of equipment and safety of the facility, alongside building and developing a multiskilled maintenance team. There have been numerous factory improvement projects across our three UK manufacturing sites that I have been a key facilitator – these include, upgrading services (electrical/mechanical) and moving, installing and commissioning machinery.
